Fast X: The Fast and Furious film series has ignited a fervor of its own amidst the radiance of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the Indian audience. Amongst the Hollywood films released in India, encompassing various languages including English, the movie ‘Fast and Furious Hobbs and Shaw’ has garnered the utmost adoration. Intrigued by the anticipation surrounding ‘Fast Ten’, also known as ‘Fast and Furious 10’, this film has secured a position in the esteemed top 10 list of Hollywood film openings, amassing a staggering sum of Rs 10 crore on its initial day of release. Nevertheless, this film serves as an unmistakable clarion call for the future of this franchise. Failure to heed this warning, by none other than Vin Diesel himself, could potentially spell disaster for the remaining two sequels.
Fast X: The unfinished tale of the saga
The inaugural installment of this illustrious series, known as ‘Fast and Furies’, graced the silver screen in the year 2001, and its tenth opus has been unveiled in 2023. Justin Lin, who helmed five out of the nine preceding films, relinquished the directorial reins of Fast Ten due to purported constant interference by Vin Diesel, thus disheartening him. Nonetheless, his esteemed presence endures as the film’s producer and writer. Prior to each installment in this series, Vin Diesel imparts witty remarks, often leaving an indelible mark. He recently disclosed his aspiration to assemble an all-female ensemble within this franchise, and, as the film’s release approached, he expressed a preference for culminating the series finale with Fast Ten, rather than prolonging it for two additional films. Alas, this is the weakest link within this cinematic masterpiece. Upon viewing, spectators are left with an unsettling sense of incompleteness, akin to perusing a captivating novel only to discover, upon reaching the end, that the epilogue of the narrative is yet to unfold.
The wrestler transformed into a malevolent character in the fifth installment.
The narrative of the film ‘Fast Ten’ intertwines with the events of its predecessor, the fifth film in this series. As Louis Leterrier takes the directorial reins for the first time in this franchise, he carries a profound sense of responsibility on his shoulders. The task of replacing Justin Lin is no easy feat. While watching this cinematic creation, there are moments that evoke a crossover between the ‘Fast and Furious’ franchise and the ‘Transformers’ series. It is justified, for Louis’s fervor for manipulating colossal entities is evident in his own film ‘Incredible’. A similar transformation has occurred, akin to what has befallen the character ‘Hulk’. ‘Fast Ten’ is a film that elicits an enduring fervor from the audience, whether it engenders two sequels or twenty, as the ardor for this series appears resolute.
The plethora of stars detracts from the film’s quality.
While the film ‘Fast Ten’ suffers from its weakest aspect, its storyline, the excessive inclusion of stars has also diminished the enjoyment of watching the film. In an effort to garner attention for this film, Vin Diesel has enlisted every star associated with this franchise, regardless of their minor involvement. The exhilaration derived from watching this film in IMAX 3D lies solely in witnessing the destruction of colossal vehicles. The narrative lacks depth, yet observing the actors leaping about from moving vehicles provides its own distinct pleasure.
What motivated Brie Larson to join Fast X?
Dominic Toretto and his family are familiar figures to viewers who have diligently followed the ‘Fast and Furious’ series. He aspires to lead a tranquil family life, forsaking his past transgressions and servitude. However, in a brief six-minute flashback at the outset of the film, it is revealed that Dante, who seemingly perished after falling from a bridge in ‘Fast Five’, is indeed alive. Furthermore, Dante has been vigilantly observing Dom ever since! This character possesses a deeper understanding of the franchise’s characters than the audience, despite not having played a central role in any of the previous films. He appears enigmatic, defying conventional expectations, and his story remains unsettled. I fail to comprehend why Brie Larson chose to participate in this film, other than monetary considerations. As an artist who has charted an illustrious course within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it is perplexing that she would compromise her brand value by accepting such a role. The only plausible explanation could be an exorbitant sum offered for this particular portrayal.
Fast X Solely reliant on its action sequences.
The narrative commences with the devastation caused by a neutron bomb on the streets of Rome, traversing through Brazil, Portugal, Los Angeles, and various other locales akin to the time-traveling sage Narada from Indian mythology, exclaiming ‘Narayan Narayan’. Dom is compelled to protect his eight-year-old child. His loyal comrades gradually disappear from the screen, one by one. However, given the events witnessed at the film’s inception, it remains unclear whether to mourn their demise or anticipate their reappearance in the subsequent two installments. Even after Vin Diesel’s mesmerizing climax at Hoover Dam, the film’s legacy lingers. The end credits hint at a sequel, and ‘Fast Ten’ is sustained not by its narrative, but rather by its adrenaline-fuelled action.
